Worn siding drains energy, lowers curb appeal, and invites moisture damage. Our team handles Siding Replacement across Rome and Rome, IL so you get lasting protection without the headache.
Red Flags
Most homeowners wait too long to replace siding, which turns a straightforward project into a more expensive repair involving moisture damage and structural issues.
Blistering means the bond between your siding and its backing has failed, usually due to water or heat. Once panels start blistering, replacement is the practical solution.
Significant fading beyond normal weathering means the pigment has broken down and the protective properties of the material have degraded. Painting over faded siding is a short-term fix, not a solution.
Sections that are pulling away from the wall or visibly bowing have lost their structural integrity. This problem gets worse with each weather cycle.
Any gap you can see between panels or at trim intersections is a point where your exterior envelope has failed. These rarely stay small on their own.
Siding that needs paint every two to three years is absorbing moisture and swelling, which breaks the paint bond. The fix isn't a better paint product — it's new siding.
Old siding that has expanded and contracted through years of weather cycles often develops micro-gaps that are invisible to the eye but significant from an energy efficiency standpoint.

Siding Replacement Services
When your siding has reached the end of its useful life, full replacement is the most cost-effective long-term move. We remove the existing siding, inspect and repair the substrate, install new house wrap, and put up premium new material. Every surface gets addressed — no spot repairs that create visible patches.
Get an EstimateNot every replacement project requires a full exterior teardown. When damage is isolated to specific sections and the surrounding siding is in solid condition, we can replace only the affected panels. We match profiles and colors carefully to minimize visual inconsistency.
Learn MoreIn situations where the existing siding is in stable condition and the structure supports the added weight, new siding can be installed directly over the existing layer. This approach reduces labor costs and shortens the project timeline while still giving your home a completely refreshed exterior appearance.
Learn MoreIf you're working with an insurance claim, we provide clear documentation of the damage and the scope of work required. We've worked alongside many homeowners navigating the claims process and understand what adjusters are looking for.
Learn MoreProperty owners managing duplexes, triplexes, and small apartment buildings need a crew that can work at scale, coordinate around tenant schedules, and maintain consistent workmanship across all units. We handle multi-family replacement with the same precision we bring to single-family homes — just at greater volume.
Get an EstimateSometimes homeowners want to move from vinyl to fiber cement, or from wood to an engineered product, to gain performance benefits their current siding doesn't offer. A material upgrade replacement handles the full removal and reinstallation while giving you the opportunity to step up to a product that better suits your home's needs and your long-term goals.

What You Should Know
When Rome homeowners ask us whether they should repair or replace, the answer almost always depends on two things: how widespread the damage is and how old the existing siding is. Isolated damage on siding that's otherwise in solid condition is usually worth repairing. But when we see systemic issues — widespread fading, multiple cracked panels, persistent moisture readings, or siding that's 20-plus years old — replacement is the more economical choice over a five to ten year window.
From an energy efficiency standpoint, new siding can make a meaningful difference to how your home performs year-round. This is especially true when you choose an insulated product that adds continuous foam backing beneath the panel layer. Continuous insulation eliminates thermal bridging at framing members, which is a significant source of heat loss in typical wall assemblies. Rome homeowners who upgrade to insulated siding often notice a reduction in how hard their heating and cooling systems run during seasonal extremes — though we're careful never to project specific savings figures since results vary by home.
Choosing the right material for a Rome home means thinking about what your exterior actually faces through the seasons. Vinyl's primary advantage is low maintenance and cost, but standard vinyl can become brittle in sustained extreme cold and may not handle high-impact weather as well as fiber cement or engineered wood. Fiber cement is the most impact-resistant common siding material, holds paint color exceptionally well, and is non-combustible — a meaningful advantage in fire-prone areas of Rome, IL. Engineered wood products offer a natural wood appearance with engineered moisture and pest resistance, making them popular with homeowners who want warmth and texture without the maintenance of real wood.
A typical single-story home in the Rome area sees installation begin and reach a visible stage of progress on the first day. Most projects wrap within two to four days depending on the home's size and the extent of any prep work needed. We wrap up each day with a site cleanup pass so the property stays reasonably organized throughout the project. At completion, we do a full walkthrough with you and address anything that needs attention before we call the job done.
For homeowners in Rome who are navigating the decision between contractors, we recommend asking every bidder for a few specific things: a copy of their liability insurance certificate and workers' compensation documentation, a written estimate that itemizes labor and materials separately, and references from similar projects completed in your area. Contractors who hesitate on any of those requests should be treated with caution. The siding replacement market has a reasonable number of operators who cut corners on insurance or substrate preparation in ways that create expensive problems down the road for homeowners. SOS Roofing and Siding provides all documentation before any project starts and is happy to connect you with past clients in Rome and across Rome, IL.

We give you an honest answer during the free estimate. If your existing siding has significant useful life remaining and the damage is contained, we'll say so. We don't recommend replacement when repair genuinely makes more sense for your situation.
New siding can improve your home's thermal performance, particularly if you choose an insulated product with foam backing or if the existing siding had developed gaps and cracks. The improvement is more significant when the old siding was in particularly poor condition. We're careful not to project specific savings figures since results vary by home and how it's used.
